The best AI tech pack generator turns your approved measurement standards into a draft your technical designer can release.
The F* Word fits that job as a validation and orchestration layer for fashion pre-production. It generates tech packs and moodboards and validates designs against trend data. It sits apart from your PLM, pattern software and 3D tools; it is not an image generator.
Sketch-to-pattern works at layer three, the pattern. Trend-to-tech-pack works at layer two, the specification. Judge generators by evidence at each of four layers.
Design intent asks whether the garment looks like the brief, using references, renders and AI visuals. Specification asks whether measurements make sense, using points of measure (POMs), ease, tolerances, grade rules and category standards. AI can answer specification questions with structured product data.
Pattern fit asks whether the pattern can produce the garment. Evidence includes seam compatibility, balance, grain, notches and grade nesting. AI needs pattern geometry to answer. Physical fit asks whether the garment works on a body in its material, which needs a garment for a fit session, wear trial or wash test.
Lectra, Gerber, Optitex, PatternFast and fashionINSTA sit at layer three. 3D adds evidence between layers three and four rather than replacing a fit session. Image-derived 3D is a visual preview and cannot confirm body fit.
Speed and approval
The State of AI Fashion 2026 report puts manual tech packs at 4 to 16 hours by self-report. Platform figures put an autonomous first draft at 8 to 10 minutes and a reviewed, released pack at 45 to 90 minutes. The F* Word measured Sketch to Tech Pack.
Those figures describe layer-two speed. Faster bills of materials (BOMs), POM tables and grade logic can cut email churn before sampling. Test both draft and approval time on your own styles.
Brand rules and fit evidence
Your blocks and grade rules govern pattern accuracy. Whitepaper 02 describes an agent that generates graded patterns from brand-defined rules, adjusting for proportion, movement and body-type fit rather than resizing. It puts core-block extensions into plus or regional fits at hours rather than weeks because those rules capture intent that scales. A garment and fit session still gate confirmation.
Your POM library and tolerances govern specification accuracy. Whitepaper 08 says AI can answer specification-fit questions using structured product data, including category ease and grade rules. Leave a measurement blank if you cannot source it: an invented value can seed later chargebacks.
Keep generated packs in draft status until a technical designer approves them. Retain fit sessions, with fewer rounds as the goal. Before you buy, check whether a vendor backs pattern-fit claims with geometry or sells layer-one visuals in layer-three language.
